FAQ

Q: What Should I Wear?

A: The selection of proper clothing for your session is an important process for a successful portrait. If the clothing is noticeable in a portrait, it could easily become a distraction. Here are a few tips when deciding what to wear:

  • To appear slimmer, wear dark clothing that fits and does not pull or tug at the body
  • Opt for pants with a flat front and no drawstrings.
  • Solid colors are always the best. Avoid stripes, plaids, polka dots, or busy patterns.
  • For High Key portraits, wear lighter colors, including white or pastels. These types of portraits look great with jeans or khakis.
  • For low-key portraits, consider black or dark colors like burgundy, olive, navy blue or plum.
  • Try to avoid sleeveless or really short sleeves, as they will make your arms appear wider.
  • Avoid horizontal lines of any sort, like, stripes, belts or anything that draws attention to the waist area, as they will make you look heavier.
  • Layers, textures, hats, and scarves are fun for babies and kids.
  • For group or family photos, dress in similar tones and styles.
